About Mintaka Press
Mintaka Press is an independent imprint dedicated to bold, character-driven storytelling. We publish speculative fiction and creative work that explores identity, power, and belonging. Our stories center outsiders and challenge the systems that shape them.
Named after one of the stars in Orion’s Belt, Mintaka Press reflects a belief that storytelling can illuminate what lies beyond the visible—within ourselves and in the worlds we create. The name itself is derived from the Arabic manṭaqa, meaning “region” or “belt.”
Vision
We are drawn to work that is imaginative and emotionally grounded, where the fantastical reveals something deeply human.
What We Publish
Mintaka Press focuses on:
Cross-genre speculative fiction (science fiction, fantasy, horror, and beyond)
Character-driven narratives
Stories exploring identity and transformation
Work that challenges conventions and expands genre boundaries
Stories that resonate across young adult and adult audiences
Shaped in part by firsthand experience in the publishing process, Mintaka Press is committed to building a more thoughtful and transparent approach to storytelling.
Mintaka Press was founded by Michael Solis, whose work centers on identity, power, and belonging.
